Non-Violent Economy - Parameters Of New Sustainable Economic System

Economic is to manage wealth and resources but its purpose should be for fulfilment of social justice and moral values. Gandhiji said “true economics never militates against the highest ethical standard; just as all true ethics to be worth its name, must at the same time be also good economics“ to me man is highest consideration. Nothing is more important to man than man. Gandhi also said “I will welcome every invention for the benefit of man-kind.” To put a limitation to our wants means to lead a simple and balanced life. Gandhi himself led an experimental life.

The power of violence leads to fear, terror and unhappiness. The power of non-violence increases the consciousness of fearlessness, friendliness, spiritual togetherness and oneness. The society is living between these two powers. The reality is that true development of democracy and human personality can be the subject only. In human economy, where curiosity of non-violent economy is present, there is neither exploitation nor desire of excess profit.

According to Acharya Mahaprajana, only equality is not the solution to this problem, only difference is also not the solution of problem. According to anekant, the solution of the social problem is evolution of a third race named equality and differences.

Today, for the existence of world, there is need of creating a new economy combining the economics of Keyena, Marshal, Gandhi and Sumekar. To bring about non-violence, experiment with satyagrah is essential.

There should be training of the scientific and practical hypothesis for building a non-violent personality. Violence can be seen in family life, so also in social, economical and political life. Along with its removal, there should be a development in equality and peaceful co-existence in life style. An example to quote is - there was a Jain devotee named Jagdushah in Gujarat. He said to royal attendants - the people of Gujarat are starving to death, suffering from drought. So take as much wealth as is required. The wealth of Jagdushah alone solved the problem of whole Gujarat. This is proper use of wealth.

New parameters

For introducing the new economic system, we will have to put some parameters before us. The new economic system should be such that:

  • It does not become danger to world peace.
  • It brings about a reduction in crime.
  • It does not increase violence, and it promotes the feeling of non-destructive in matter.

The first essential premise is that the economic system does not pose to be a danger to world peace. Anybody who wants to develop in isolation - weather an individual, a society or a nation, will create a threat. In this context, the significant principles of mahavira is:

Je loyam abmaikkhai se ataman abmaikkhai. Je ataman abmaikkhai se loyam abmaikkhai.

One, who rejects the people and the world, rejects his own existence and one who rejects his own existence rejects the existence of world.

In same context, Ericson observed and said---“the material is no defence” such feeling should be developed. When the feeling of non-protection is developed, a basic change will take place. Our capacity to control emotions would increase. With this, the worldwide policy based on national ego and concept of national sovereignty would diminish and a balance would emerge.

If we can develop the feeling of non-violence in very beginning life of a student through non-violence training, then a proper base can be provided for sustainable world peace, as one grows as a citizen.
