The Claremont Lincoln University in Claremont, CA (suburb of LA) is new but the several affiliated Claremont Colleges on which it builds upon are very old and well known. We attach here an official invitation card and also share below the invitation letter from the Provost of the university.

Truly this is a historic event for Jain academic studies and for the Jain community. The convocation event will be televised by national media such as by PBS and the LA Times. Mrs. Pramodaben Chitrabhanu will do the Manglacharan. In addition, several Jain community leaders, Jain scholars and senior university officials will also speak.

It is a groundbreaking new model of higher education that desegregates religious education; a model that will produce leaders who can build partnerships and coalitions across all boundaries - religious, secular, governmental, corporate, and grassroots.

The launch of Claremont Lincoln is a historic occasion. But equally historic is the addition of Jain Studies as a foundational feature in the new university. On the same day as the University Launch we are celebrating the signing of a wide-ranging Letter of Understanding between the International School for Jain Studies and Claremont Lincoln—a partnership to be known as “ISJS at Claremont Lincoln.” With this step, the Jain community will become a vital member of this international consortium of religions, which we believe is the world’s first fully inter-religious university.

The Jain partnership represents one of the most significant steps in applied religion that the University has taken so far. Not only is Jainism the first Eastern tradition represented in the University, but the “Jain way of life,” which includes compassion to all life forms, beautifully intersects with and extends the university’s educational offerings. At the heart of Claremont Lincoln’s mission as detailed in its founding documents lies the ideal of “building bridges of understanding…for the purposes of improving and repairing our shared society, environment, and world.”

We will devote the morning of September 6th—from 8am to 11am—to celebrating the opening of “ISJS at Claremont Lincoln.” We begin by inviting  Jain leaders from North America and around the world to a vegan breakfast on the university campus (8-9am). From 9 to 10:30, the honored Jain visitors will join dignitaries from the university for a special ceremony in Mudd Theater to mark this newest partnership of the University, between the International School for Jain Studies and Claremont Lincoln.

The Jain celebration will be followed by a Convocation officially launching Claremont Lincoln University. The keynote speaker event will be the Hon. Ebrahim Rasool, South Africa's ambassador to the United States and international leader in interfaith dialogue. We hope you will join us in the celebration and the luncheon that follows (12-1pm).

Claremont Lincoln has oriented itself as the most dynamic and truly collaborative center for religious education in the country. We look forward to meeting you and journeying with you over the coming years.
