Guniyaji Shri Gautam Swami Mandir
is a jal mandir (i.e. a temple built on an island of a lake) in the small village Gunawa, located just north of Nawada in Bihar state. It is believed that the name "Guniyaji" (or "Gunayaji") is derived from "Gunsheel Chaitya". According to an ancient inscription in Rajgir this term means a kind of virtuous home, i.e. a place which was once visited many times by Lord Mahavira to preach his doctrines of non-violence. It is also believed that Gautam Swami, who was Mahavira's first ganadhara, attained kevala jnana at this place. In the immediate vicinity Gunawa Digambara Jain Mandir is located.
