Shri Digamber Jain Siddha Kshetra Chulgiri at Bawangaja
Siddha Kshetra Chulgiri is situated on highest peak of Satpura Mountain range.The Chulgiri Kshetra is world famous for its huge magnificent Khadgasana idol of Bhagwan Adinath. This image of Bhagwan Adinath is made in brown stone. As no written evidence is available regarding its construction it is very difficult to say anything about its construction period.
Chulgiri temple, situated on the hilltop, is the main temple of this Kshetra and was constructed in the 12th century. The ten temples nearby were constructed during the 15th century by the precept of Bhattaraka Ratnakirti. According to an inscription the main temple was constructed in Samvat 1223, but no inscriptions are available regarding the construction of the monumental image of Adinatha. Yati Madan Kirti, who lived in the 13th century CE, mentioned that one Arkakirti was the builder of this idol.
