#Introspection ❖ ❖ Das Lakshan *Celebration of Soul -UTTAM ARJAV (STRAIGHFORWARDNESS OF CONDUCT) - DAY 3 ❖ pls share it..
Aarjava means straightforwardness in conduct of one’s mind, speech, & body. What is straightforwardness can be understood from this verse.
Such a process involves all three - mind, speech & body. What’s on the mind should be so good & virtuous that we don’t feel ashamed saying it, we don’t hesitate doing it. This type of virtuousness & straightforwardness of our conscience is called as uprightness in conduct. # Complications of life are a result of Show off & pompousness and the cause behind an artificial life is that we want to project ourselves as something that we are not.
Let’s give a thought to why do we conduct in a pretentious or treacherous manner with others. There is only one reason - we want to project ourselves as something that we are not. Hence we start the deceitful lifestyle - just to gain some benefit by hurting others.
If we start cheating others, hurting others (physically or otherwise) & start enjoying that then slowly we will lose our credibility & truthfulness. This is what’s happening in the present. We have become too artificial, have started to show off. As a result we have made our life very complicated/complex. Take example of a rope. If it is entangled and we try to make it straight, it keeps on getting more & more entangled. Similarly we involve some unnecessary complications in our lives & then try to correct things all our life. All this is because of our show off.
Arjava or uprightness has some synonyms - honesty, good hearted, simplicity, innocence, warm-heartedness, and straightforwardness. We should try & introspect if we have all these feelings in our heart in different instances. If not, then try to bring them in your life slowly. While practicing these virtues people may try to trick you, cheat you. But remember you need not cheat them in return; just be cautious not to be tricked or cheated.
कबीरा आप ठगाइए, और न ठगिये कोय! आप ठगाए सुख उपजे, पर ठगिये दुःख होय!
If you are tricked, you may feel hurt for sometime; but still you’ll have the satisfaction that you haven’t cheated anyone (the karmas for which may be carried for many lives).
All of us have heard the story of Baba Bharati. A dacoit had stolen his horse by tricking him as a wounded pilgrim. But what did Baba Bharati say to the dacoit - “Please don’t tell about this incident to anyone otherwise people would stop believing in helping the poor & needy”. Similarly we should maintain our honesty & credibility whether we are in a business, in a market, or in a social-religious place.
If you want to learn straightforwardness then spend some time with children. They are really pure at heart. All of us must have heard of this incident. If we do not want to meet someone at home, we ask little children to tell that person that “Tell him, I am not at home.” But children are really innocent. He’d go and tell that person “Papa says, he is not at home.” What should the child do, he doesn’t know what trickery you are trying to do here. He just says what he understands. Although this might seem to be a losing situation, but the loss is only temporary.
We shouldn’t look at the material gains in the present. If the temporary gain is actually leading to loss of your character, honesty & trust in the longer term then it’s a bigger loss. TO avoid this lifetime loss, it’s worth to have a smaller loss in the present.
There’s a simple example on simplicity.
An old lady was by the street carrying a Potli on her head. A horse rider passed by her. So she asked him “Son, could you please carry this luggage (Potli) of mine on your horse for some time. I’ll take it from you at the next crossing.”
To this the rider responded “Is that why I have this horse for. I don’t have time to carry your luggage” & he moved on. But after moving a few meters, the horse rider thought “maybe it’s not a bad idea to carry the old lady’s luggage. She might be carrying some valuables in it. I can simply take that & run away.”
So he went back to the lady & said “I am sorry. I should’ve carried your luggage. Now please let me carry it for you.” It’s very easy to try and look simple; but it’s very difficult to actually be simple.
The old lady declined to the rider’s offer of help. Perplexed the rider asked her if anybody said anything to her about him. To this the lady replied “Son, it’s your mind that has said everything to me that it said to you.”
It’s not easy to deceive someone, because ultimately you are deceiving yourself.
One’s own conduct may be crooked. His bodily action, speech and mind may be lacking in straightforwardness. Avoiding this crookedness in thought, word and deed, is called Aarjavam or uprightness in conduct.

#Introspection ❖ आज दस लक्षण पर्व का तीसरा दिन उत्तम आर्जव धर्मं है! ✿ उत्तम आर्जव - सरलता के मायने हैं - भोलापन, संवेदनशीलता और निष्कपटता! हम कृत्रिम हो गए हैं, दिखावा करने लगे हैं जिससे लोगों के मन में हमारे प्रति विश्वास नहीं रहा - गुरुवर क्षमासागरजी महाराज! Pls share it.
जीवन में उलझनें दिखावे और आडम्बर की वजह से हैं. हमारी कमजोरियां जो मजबूरी की तरह हमारे जीवन में शामिल हो गयी हैं, उनको अगर हम रोज़ -रोज़ देखते रहे और उन्हें हटाने की भावना भाते रहे तो बहुत आसानी से इन चीज़ों को अपने जीवन में घटा बढा सकते हैं. हमारे जीवन का प्रभाव आसपास के वातावरण पे भी पड़ता है.जब हमारे अंदर कठोरता आती है तो आसपास का परिवेश भी दूषित होता है. इसीलिए इस बात का सदैव ध्यान रखना चाहिए की हमारे व्यव्हार से किसी को कष्ट न हो.
दुसरे के साथ हम रूखा व्यव्हार करेंगे, दुसरे के साथ छल -कपट करेंगे, धोखा देंगे और इसमें आनंद मानेंगे तो हमारी विश्वसनीयता और प्रमाणिकता दोनों ही धीरे -धीरे करके ख़तम हो जायेगी. वर्तमान में ये ही हो रहा है. हम कृत्रिम हो गए हैं,दिखावा करने लगे हैं जिससे लोगों के मन में हमारे प्रति विश्वास नहीं रहा,एक -दुसरे के प्रति संदेह ज्यादा हो गया, यहाँ तक की परिवार में भी एक -दुसरे के प्रति स्नेह ज्यादा है -विश्वास कम है. लेकिन रिश्ते तो सब विश्वास से चलते हैं. रिश्ता चाहे भगवान् से हो या संसार के व्यक्तियों से या वस्तुओं से, सभी विश्वास और श्रध्दा के बल पे ही हैं. यदि हम श्रध्दा और विश्वास बनाये रखना चाहते हैं तो हमारा फ़र्ज़ है की हम आडम्बर से बचें, अपने मन को सरल बनाने की कोशिश करें.
सरलता के मायने हैं - इमानदारी,सरलता के मायने हैं - स्पष्टवादिता,सरलता के मायने हैं - उन्मुक्त ह्रदय होना, सरलता के मायने हैं - सादगी, सरलता के मायने हैं - भोलापन, संवेदनशीलता और निष्कपटता.
हमें इन बातों को धीरे -धीरे अपने जीवन में लाना होगा, या फिर इनसे विरोधी जो चीज़ें हैं उनसे बचने का प्रयास करना होगा. इमानदार और सरल होने पे यह मुश्किल खड़ी हो सकती है की लोग हमें हानि पहुंचायें. यह मुश्किल थोडी बढेगी पर इसके बाद भी हमें अपनी इमानदारी बनाये रखना है. किसी ने हमको ठग लिया तो हम भी उसे ठग लें यह बात गलत है. यह बात मनुष्य जीवन में सीख लेना है की -
"कबीरा आप ठगाइए,और न ठगिये कोए, आप ठगाए सुख उपजे,पर ठगिये दुःख होए "
कोई अपने को ठग ले तो कोई हर्ज़ नहीं पर इस बात का संतोष तो रहेगा की मैंने तो किसी को धोका नहीं दिया. एक बार धोका देना,या छल -कपट करने का परिणाम हमें सिर्फ इस जीवन में नहीं बल्कि आगे आने वाले कई भवों तक भोगना पड़ेगा.
बाबा भारती के घोडे की बात तो सबको मालूम है. बाबा भारती से डाकू ने घोड़ा छीन लिया लेकिन बाबा भारती ने डाकू से यही कहा की -'यह बात किसी से कहना मत नहीं तो लोगों का विश्वास उठ जायेगा की दीन -हीन की मदद नहीं करना चाहिए '. एक बार हम धोखा दे देते हैं तो हमारी इमानदारी पर संदेह होने लगता है,इसलिए सरलता वही है जिसमें हम इमानदार रहते हैं, दूसरों के साथ छल नहीं करते, विश्वास और प्रमाणिकता बनाये रखते हैं. हम कहीं भी हो,हमारा ह्रदय उन्मुक्त होना चाहिए. गुरुवर क्षमासागरजी महाराज की जय!
