Role of Aasanas in Winning Emotional Duality:

Aasanas also help in winning over duality of mind and emotions. There is an aasana called Shashank aasana (Rabbit pose). A person suffering from an emotional outburst of anger can find a lot of help in controlling anger by regularly practicing Shashank aasana. Yog mudra is the best aasana to control instincts like lust etc. In fact, such impulses originate around the navel and adrenal gland. The Adrenal gland is also responsible for fight or flight response. Shashank aasana and Yog mudra are helpful in controlling the adrenal gland. During Preksha meditation, when we bow down reciting the words Vande Sachham, that posture helps in controlling the adrenal gland and therefore controlling the passions.

The practice of aasana is good, not only for improving physical health, but also for the practice of meditation. Without aasana the family of meditation is incomplete. Just like a room is incomplete without a door and a roof, meditation is incomplete without the practice of aasana. This combination of aasana and meditation helps in reducing the duality, increasing the flexibility, and bringing back a child-like state of mind.
