Gangashahar
The immortal and invaluable disciplinary guidelines forming basis of Maryada Mahotsav were penned by none other than the 1st terapanthi acharya – Shri Bhikshu Swami over 200 years ago. The functions and festivities of ‘Maryada Mahotsav’ – literally meaning – “Grand Festival of Religious Self Discipline” – were started by Jayacharyashri (4th Acharya of Terapanth) around 140 years ago.
Herenow4u.de attended some earlier editions of Maryada Mahotsavs and was again there to witness the mesmerizing proceedings of 143rd Maryada Mahotsav
which was held in Gangasahar, a small town adjacent to Bikaner in desert state of Rajasthan, India from 23rd January 2007 to 25th January 2007.
Terapanth and the land Gangasahar are not new to each other. 8th Acharya Kalugani first spent a chaturmas in Gangasahar about 80 years ago. Proud & humble people of Gangasahar and it’s surrounding areas have always offered their services and rolled our red carpets
for the visitors on many occasions since then - which are – and will remain - of great of importance to terapanth sangh. This sand of Gangasahar
has become pious and sacred by witnessing a good number of historical events – a short list of which is as under:
1962, 1st March | Silver Jubilee Year celebrations of Acharya Shri Tulsi’s reign as 9th Acharya |
1978, 12th November | Adornment of Muni Shri Nathmalji as ‘Mahaprajna’ by Acharyashri Tulsi |
1972, 14th January | Appointment of Sadhvishri Kanak Prabhaji as Sadhvi Pramukha by Acharyashri Tulsi |
