Detail of Diksha Ceremony
On 28th January 2007, Diksha Ceremony of four Mumukshu sisters was held under the auspicious guidance of H.H. Acharya Shri Mahaprajnaji in Bikaner at Fort Ground. On the beginning, Namokar Mahamantra was recited.
76 years ago, on 29th January 1931 (Magh Shukla 10 in 1988 in Jain moon calender), H.H. had taken Diksha at the tender age of ten. Now the four Mumukshus, M. Sarita, M. Chandra, M. Priti & M. Priyanka were also ready to enter into a new life by leaving all worldly bonds & materiality. Two of them got Sadhvi Diksha, two Samani Diksha. Because of the huge crowd the extended area where the Diksha took place seemed very small.
At 13:.30, all relatives of Mumukshus had gathered in front of the stage to witness how that their beloved were entering into the sacred path of Mahavira. The Mumukshus wore Saris and had garlands around their necks, Tilak on forehead & Mehandi (a kind of herb that gives red colour after drying when put on skin) on their hands. In India, it is considered auspicious when ladies decorate their hands at the occasion of special functions like marriage or Diksha.
Acharya Shri said,
“Persons taking Diksha as followers of Mahavira are very lucky, as they do not only change dress, but also remove all feelings of misery while entering into their new life.
The current era is one of luxury & consumerism. It is very amazing when people have a determination to get rid of the dominating materialistic attractions. They all come to an end when they have started their new life.
For this new life, they must develop a combination of discipline & own character. “
Acharya Shri Mahaprajna & Yuvacharya Mahashraman then performed the ceremony according to the prescribed tradition of Sadhvi & Saman Diksha. Oral permission from all parents of Mumukshus was asked and given in public; written permission had been signed and was presented to Acharya Shri by Shri Kanyia Lalji Chajjed, vice president of Parmarthik Sikshan Santhan. Then Acharya Shri asked all Mumukshus whether they are ready to enter in the SAYAM life with full determination & devotion. All gave affirmative reply.
Then Acharya Shri Mahaprajnaji told all Mumukshus to leave behind all worldly affairs and relations and recited in Prakrit & Sanskrit the pledge for Sadhvis to avoid all types of violence their whole life long. Yuvacharya Mahashraman recited the Saman Diksha pledge to follow the rules for Samans.
After the ceremony, the Mumukshus got new names as below:
Old Name | New Name |
Mumukshu Sarita | Sadhvi Sanmatiprabha |
Mumukshu Chandra | Sadhvi Chandrika Shree |
Mumukshu Preeti | Samani Punitprajna |
Mumuksha Priyanka | Samani Prabodhprajna |
Sadhvi Pramukha Shri Kanak Prabhaji had removed some hairs from the heads of the new nuns & handed the Ogha, the broom as symbol of total nonviolence, not to kill the tiniest being crossing their path. Samani Niyojika Madhur Pragyaji gave a smaller form of the broom to the new Samanis.
At the end of the ceremony Acharyashree told the public to bow to the new nuns. Devotees & Samanijis, all followed the instruction of Acharya Shri collectively.
