Samanijis’ Visit To Cardiff University

On 24th March 2009, at the invitation of William Johnson, professor of the religious department of Cardiff University, Samanijis held a two-hour session among about 15 students. In the first half session, Samani Rohit Pragya spoke on “Introduction to Jainism and a life-style of Jain ascetic”. She explained about the meaning, antiquity and various traditions of Jainism.  Explaining the life style of monks and nuns, she spoke about the unique activities performed by them like walk on bare feet, go house to house to collect the food, pluck out the hair etc. In her speech, she also gave introduction about the new ascetic order (Samans and Samanis) and activities done by them in India as well as abroad to spread the high ideals of Jainism world wide.


Samani Prasanna Pragya led an interactive practical session. During the session, she asked about the problems of students which they face in their day to day life and told them about Meditation, a panacea to get rid of all problems. She introduced Preksha Meditation and taught them Scientific correct breathing, Complete breathing and Rhythmic breathing. Students enjoyed all exercises and found it very beneficial to increase concentration and memory. Professor Johnson and students paid their gratitude towards Samanijis for enriching their knowledge about Jain religion and teaching them practical exercises to get a balanced and joyful life.
