17.06.2017 ►JSNE ►Jain Musical Drama on Kashays & Karma based on Star Wars, Willy Wonka, and Jain Sajjays

Published: 18.06.2017

Pranam everyone,

We want to share an exciting musical drama that we believe is both entertaining and educational for Jain children of all ages!

It bridges Eastern and Western cultures to teach everyone the Jain concepts of Kashays and Karmas.

Please see our short Trailer:

And the full video:

Here's the synopsis:

We embark on a 2-hour journey through the eyes of "Maanvi", a Pathshala student,
who learns to control her passions (Kashays),
after a debate with her Inside Out inner voices.

She does this by conquering her inner Darth Vader
using the help of Guru Yoda and
cheery reminders by the innocent Oompa Loompas.

Yoda takes her on a journey through
various lives of Lord Mahavir and
reveals Mahavir's own struggles with
His own Kashays throughout His Lives.

We use elements of Music, Poetry, Dance, and Drama,
from East and the West,
bringing the community together to
remind us of who we are and ultimately where we can go.

  • Jain metaphorical representations of Darth Vader and Yoda
  • Light saber battle scene depicting a fight with our own inner enemies
  • Jain Sajjays performed in Indian classical dance form
  • Original Jain English songs and dance compositions about Life, Kashays, and Karma
  • Clear explanations of Karma by a wise Jedi Council
  • Depictions from Lord Mahavir's stories and his own struggles

If other Jain centers are interested in the materials we created (including the songs/scripts/etc), please contact or (626) 993-7007.

Best,
Nimisha Asthagiri, Grishma Gandhi, Paulomi Gudka
