On Sunday 6 June 2021, Wenda Shehata gave an inspiring talk of running a unique vegan animal sanctuary which she founded with her partner, Matthew, in 1995.
If you missed the talk, we strongly urge you to listen Wenda describe her motivation and dedication to look after the welfare of cows and farmed animals. Moreover, she explained how she achieved her goals by generating most of the power themselves and living a minimalistic life.

Hugletts Wood Farm Animal Sanctuary is the only one of its kind in the whole of Europe founded on the Jain principles of Ahimsa and Aparigraha. It offers protection to over 360 cows and farmed animals who have suffered at the hands of callous humans.
Due to COVID-19, their fundraising activities have been severely impacted with no Shows or Open Days. Weekly expenditure has increased by £1000 to the sum of £3000 due to increased cost of hay and straw which is in short supply. Consequently, they need to pay hauliers to bring it from the north of England.
At the beginning of May 2021, one of the cows being housed at a rented barn was murdered just after she gave birth to her calf. Therefore, they wish to build a barn within their own premises so that the 21 cows and calves they rescued from a slaughterhouse in Ireland can be relocated to their sanctuary. In order to do this they need to build a new barn with drainage.
The funding requirement for the cost of materials to build the barn is £15500. Wenda will be most grateful if well wishers can contribute so that they can complete building the barn during the summer months. Details are in the poster below.
