Animesh_ Preksha: A Practice on External Object. The support for meditation is divided in three parts —
a. External object
b. Body, and
c. Nature of the soul.
In the technique of Preksha meditation Animesh Preksha i.e. meditation without blinking the eyes is also practiced. In this practice, the focus of attention can be either a point on the wall, the wall itself, or the tip of the nose. This practice is not for everyone but it is very useful and should be done by those who have been practicing meditation for a long time.
Lord Mahavir used the wall as a point of focus during meditation and could do it for hours without blinking his eyes. If one were to look at the wall with open eyes for half an hour or so then it is possible that the wall will start looking very different. One may start observing different colours. It is difficult to say ahead of time what picture will emerge. Once, I practiced with a picture in front, and within twenty minutes the picture was looking very quaint. Different colours and changes that occurred could only be experienced but not described.
This type of experience of doing meditation by taking the support of an external object is noteworthy in its own rights. But even more noteworthy is the experience when we take support of the body and the various centers in the body.
