On the eve of GURU PURANIMA and on the 245th TERAPANTH STHAPANA DIVAS (The day on which Terapantha was started) H. H. Acharya Mahaprajna told the mammoth gathering of devotees from all parts of the country that in Indian literature the glory of Guru had been given in great details.
In his opinion the person who had the quality to become Guru is that he must have shed his ego and attachment-mineness. The person who had a little amount of egoism and pride cannot have the guruhood. The path of realization is so narrow that there cannot stay both the guruhood and ego. So the first criteria of a Guru is that he should shed away his ego. The Truth can only have its place in life where there is no ego. The second criteria is to shed away the mineness-attachment that there is nothing mine.
On this base the Terapanth had been established.
He further said that Terapanth should reach the height by having these qualities in their life so that each and every follower has the capacity to become guru. To raise high the mental strength, character strength and all round development there should be full faith in truthful living, morality and honesty. He emphasized the that there should be progress in Jayana-Darshana and Charitra(knowledge, perception and character). There should also be progress in politeness, tolerance and adjustment.
