On Saturday 30 June 2012, the Jain Community will be doing a special charity faith walk through central London with over 400 participants from around the world, including guests from other faiths.

The ‘Love of Faith’ walk will start with prayers at a Jain temple early in the morning and encompass visits to places of worship of other faiths between St John’s Wood and Westminster - Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity - culminating at Westminster Abbey.

The initiative is organised by the Jain organisation Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur (UK), and the founder of the Mission, Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai, will be leading the Walk. The inspiration for the Mission, Shrimad Rajchandraji, was the spiritual guide for Mahatma Gandhi and greatly influenced his philosophy of non-violence.
The visits are seen as part of highlighting the Jain community’s commitment to developing good inter faith relations and celebrating the unique multi-faith heritage of Britain, reflecting the Jain tenet of ‘anekantvada’ which points to the many-sidedness of truth with a message of love and harmony.

Trustee organiser of the event, Mr Mayur Mehta said: ‘The event was oversubscribed, and demonstrates the huge bank of respect that the Jains have brought to Britain, and the quiet way in which they practice this in their everyday thoughts, behaviour and actions.’

Funds raised by walkers will go towards children’s health and welfare projects co-ordinated by Sense International and SR Love & Care organisations.  This reflects the Jain commitment - shared with other faiths - of helping those in need and to service. The walk is one of the ways that the Jain community is marking ‘A Year of Service’ to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen.
