Have you heard of Martin Luther King? He was a well known black civil rights activist in America. Despite the good causes he was fighting for and the number of followers he had; he was still assassinated. Nothing could protect him from death.
Do you remember Mother Teresa? She was an Albanian Roman Catholic nun who helped the sick, the poor, orphans, those who were terminally ill and many more. She was unwell for a few years and then had a heart attack in 1997. Despite the world’s prayers to make her well, she passed away. This reflects the fact that with even the best intentions and wishes, we cannot protect other and each being must endure their own karmas.
What’s the good in knowing and accepting this Bhavana? Well…once we endure the karmas that we have bound; as long as we take care to NOT acquire more, we will only need to shed what we have gathered already. Then, with the help of a self realised soul, we will be well on the way to attaining Moksha which is everlasting bliss. Explanation by Heena Modi - big thanks to her!
Under this reflection, one thinks that he is helpless against death, old age, and disease. The only way he can conquer death and disease is by destroying all his karma. The soul is his own savior, and to achieve total freedom and enlightenment, one takes refuge to the true path and to the five best personalities. अशरण का अर्थ है कहीं भी शरण नहीं है….चाहे सुरेन्द्र,असुरेन्द्र,नागेन्द्र हों,खगेंद्र..नरेन्द्र हों….वह भी काल रुपी सिंह के सामने हिरण के सामान हैं…और उनको भी शरीर को त्याग कर…नई योनियों में सारे महल राज पाट छोड़ के जाना पड़ता है…और कर्मों का फल भोगना पड़ता है…..चाहे कैसी भी मणि हो,मंत्र हो,तंत्र हो,बड़े से बड़ी शक्ति हो,माता,पिता,देवी,देवता,सेना,औषधि,पुत्र…या कैसा भी चेतन या अचेतन पदार्थ हो…मृत्यु से कोई नहीं बचा सकता है….तथा मृत्यु से कोई नहीं बच सका है…कहीं भी शरण नहीं है.यह अशरण भावना है इस अशरण भावना को भाने से समता भाव जागृत होता है..और इस भावना को भाने वाला जीव शरीर त्याग के समय शोक नहीं करता है..और न ही किसी अन्य के देह-अवसान में शोक करता है….और न ही संसार के भौतिक-सुखों में रति करता है!
