Time never stops. Time would pass if man does something and it would also pass even if he does nothing. No one has the power or the art to hold up Time. The moment between the past and the future is the most effective. The past can be remembered but it cannot be brought into the present. The future can be imagined, but one cannot live by that imagination. The present is the time for living. It is possible to build the future on the basis of the present. That is why it is necessary to live the present in an appropriate manner.
Man has two types of feelings in him—positive feelings and negative feelings. The person who is guided in his life by positive feelings sees something good here and there. Yudhishthira went round the whole city and he did not find a single bad person. Such a person does not accuse other persons. If there is a weak point in an incident concerning two persons, they relate it to themselves. They are neither too optimistic nor are they held in the grip of despair. They act thoughtfully. When they are successful, they continue going along the same path and when they fail, they change the course. But they do not blame any factor for that.
When man is guided by negative feelings, he cannot have a comprehensive view. He always considers the past better than the present. They always find fault with the present whatever it may be. For his failure in any field they put the entire blame on the establishment. It is not in his nature to think in terms of holding himself responsible in any way. He expects changes only from others. Without bothering about his behaviour with others, he expects favourable treatment from others. Even in their favourable behaviour, he finds something unfavourable. This is not his fault, but the fault of his negative feelings.
The politician today thinks in negative terms. The social worker's viewpoint is also not positive. The thinking of religious leader or religious preacher too takes increasingly that course. Under these circumstances, who would give inspiration to the people? Who would show them the right direction? Who would change their mental condition? So far, all have been thinking in this manner. They have been talking in the same language and are making their behaviour controversial. Why then should we think about something new? This type of thinking too reflects their negative feelings. The only positive thinking is: Whatever anyone else might have done or may be doing, I want to live an ideal life. Anuvrat is an attempt to awaken positive feelings of people. It believes not in talking about ideals but in behaving according to ideals.
It may be asked how many people have found light through anuvrat? How many people took to the good path? How many people changed their style of living? My intention is not to present any statistics in reply to these questions. I do not think the culture of statistics has attained anything big. Instead of worrying about who did and what results it brought, let every individual take to self-analysis and self-purification and by changing his own life, create a positive atmosphere. Only this inspiration of anuvrat would be able to realise the dream of building a society and a nation through the medium of the individual.
