Published: 05.03.2018

The eighth Jīvasthāna / Guṇasthāna (stage of spiritual development);

1. Nivṛtti means dissimilarity; that Jīvasthāna, in which the purity of the Pariṇāma (1) (to undergo transformation from one state to another one) of all the souls, who had entered in this Jīvasthāna simultaneously, at a particular Samaya (smallest time-unit) is not the same.

nivrttih-samasamayavartijīvānāmparināmaviśuddhervisadrśatā.

nivrttibādara jīvasthāne bhinnasamayavartijīvānām parināmaviśnddhirvisadrśī bhavati, samasamayavartijīvānām ca visadrśī sadrśi cā'pi.

(Ṣakhaṃ 1 p. 194)

2. The spiritual purity of the soul possessed of nivrtti and bādara Kaṣāya, i.e., gross (or coarse) passions. Another name of Nivṛttibādara Jīvasthāna is Apūrvakaraṇa (2) (that is, a stage, the like of which was never attained before).
