Alias(es)
Jaap, Jap

process of continuously repeating a mantra or sacred names for a certain period of time, implying total identification with the name iterated &  and whole hearted concentration on the vibrations generated through the sound.

Chanting of mantras is of three types:

  • Jap (high level voiced)
  • Antarjap(low level voiced)
  • Mansik jap (mental, silent)

Basically, the whole process constitutes an effort to migrate from the gross to the subtle.
Gross sounds produce gross vibrations and subtle sounds produce subtle vibrations.
Subtle vibrations are far more powerful than the gross ones.
