Knowledge Is The Third Eye
Human beings possess five senses. Humans have the gift of sight. Generally all humans have two eyes to see the outside world, but without the eye of knowledge, the two eyes are not complete. Therefore, we must always strive to awaken the eye of knowledge.
Once there was a well-known guru who was the best in teaching religious texts. One day he was talking to one of his disciples and telling him to get more knowledge, which is the essence of life.
The disciple asked the Guru why he needed to gain more knowledge. He said that he was doing penance and helping others, and that the guiu guided his path always. So what was the need for him to get smarter.
The guru affectionately told his stubborn disciple that even if he did guide your path, an open mind is always helpful in the long run. The guru asked if he knew about the famous story of the old man and his children. He didn't, so the guru started telling him the story.
A long time ago, there was an old man who had eight humble sons and eight daughters-in-law. His family was a caring and loving family. The old man's eyes were affected and were partially blind.
One day, the sons advised their father to have a surgery. He refused and replied that he had 34 eyes. Hearing this everyone was confused. He said I have eight sons and eight daughters-in-law and my wife, who make 34 eyes all together so there is no reason for me to spend money and get my eyes treated.
One day there was a big fire in the house. All the members of his family, protecting their lives, ran out of the house, not remembering the old man. Alone, the old man trying to save himself ran but his direction was incorrect and he ran into the fire. At the end he died in the fire. After hearing this, the disciple quickly learned that knowledge was very important.
It is rightly said that those who have complete faith and have conquered their senses are the ones who attain enlightenment which leads to total peace and a state of bliss.
