Paryushan 2007 Celebrations
Day 2
Swadhyay Diwas
10.09.2007
The second day of the Paryushan Mahaparva was being observed as the “Swadhyay Diwas”, (Day of Self Study and Study of Scriptures). The day is of special relevance in today’s world of modern materialistic & money centred environment where education lost it’s true meaning and is limited to reading or cramming a book to enable oneself to earn money in future through the use of the education undertaken. The modern concept is “Arthasaram Sarvaswam”, that is all that a matter is money. Moral concepts have therefore taken a back seat.
On this day Sadhavi Shri Nirvanshreeji said that, “If fasting is a penance then Study of Self & Religious Scriptures occupies a higher position than fasting. People of today’s era have a thirst for Knowledge & eventually understand its importance. Everybody wants to acquire it. Knowledge is of two types: “Atma gyana” & “Jivika gyana” The act of Self-study is decreasing day by day. Everybody wants to study but the question, which revolves his or her minds, is “what to study?” Sadhavishree said that Study of Scriptures provides internal peace as well as provides relief from the worldly tensions. It beautifies ones internal soul. She further advised the present Shrawaks & Shrawikas to enjoy this eternal relief by studying the texts penned down by Acharya Mahapragya. By doing so one is sure to find a never-ending peace & solutions to all it’s problem. A man should exercise Self–Control & Discipline in it’s life as because nature too helps these types of people in their survival.
In the evening a programme on musical housie was organized by south Kolkata Terapanthi Sabha, where the present chaturmas of Sadhvi Shree is continuing. Many followers participated as singers of the selected spiritual songs and many in the audience participated in musical housie based on selection on such spiritual songs.
