The Sixth day of Paryushan Festival organized by North Howrah Shree Jain Swetamber Terapanthi Sabha at Sanyam Samawsaran SAM GARDEN was celebrated as ‘JAAP DIWAS’(MANTRA CHANTING DAY).

Sadhvi Kanak Shri ji, a learned disciple of Acharya Shri Mahapragya ji.. Addressing thousands of lay followers (Shrawaks and Shrawikas) on the subject ‘Jap Mitaye Taap’-Chanting of mantras removes Sins and Sorrows - said - “the noble cause of spiritual meditation is to purifying the soul. There are various methods for purifying and nullifying the soul. Among them one is - Chanting Mantras. Chanting Mantra provides us the mental peace and thus leads to awakening of strength. That is why chanting mantras have been there in one form and another in almost all religions. Continuous chanting of one or more mantras help one create a layer of safety around one’s soul. The vibrations and echo generated as a result formulates effective favourable atmosphere leading to improve one’s Abhamandal. One must have strong belief and right motive while chanting mantras, the sins will gradually fade away.” Sadhvi Shri also enlightened the audience with practical chanting of some mantras.

While delivering the right process of chanting mantra, she told that stagnancy of this physical body, the holiness of the body and the devotion of the working body - these sthree when attained then only this mantra meditation becomes fruitful. Meditation helps the inactive body in developing the capacity of bearing the conflicts and thus makes this body healthier and stronger. Chanting with right pronunciation of the mantras in rhythm helps in strengthening the pran shakti (power of the soul), purifying the environment and attaining the strong tolerance level. Adding to her words, she told that in this present era of the complex world, reciting mantras is the easy way to get rid of the problems. The much believed mantra of Jain religion is - Namaskar Mahamantra. It is full of powers and is an influential prayer. With the continuous reciting of this mantra the ultimate result (fruit) can be gained and many problems interrupting the rhythm of life can be prevented.

With reference to Lord Mahavira’s Divine life, Sadhvi Kanak shri ji enlightened the gathering with the childhood of Lord Mahavira. She said -‘ Mahavira’s childhood name was Vardhmaan. He was a borne with knowledge and consciousness beyond mind. His inner sight was awakened. His childhood was a glimpse of Ahimsa, fearlessness and bravery. He was capable of feeling the vibrations in small creatures and their joys and sorrows. He had contact at the level of consciousness of creatures and as a result he became kind to others. Their sorrows became his sorrow. This inseparable feeling became the base for his message of Non-violence (Ahimsa) and amity (Maitri)’.

Citing the examples of the heart touching instances of the childhood of Mahavira, Sadhvi Sri ji further said that Vardhmaan was polite and obedient towards his parents. His childhood can be a source of morale to the present children.

The program began with the pious song by the ladies of South Howrah Terapanth Mahila Mandal. Sadhvi Madhulata in her discourse on the topic “Prayer ends Temper” told that Mani, Mantra and Medicine - the effect of these three is unthinkable. With their influence, bad turns into good, poverty into fortune. The improper exercise of these may lead to harm. She added that the unity of belief and feeling are necessary along with mantra jap.

The regular evening Pratikraman was attended by hundreds of  lay followers.
