We have already discussed the metaphysical view of Jainism regarding the reality of the things. According to it, the ‘pudgalāstikāya’ (or matter) is the only reality which can be perceived by senses. The rest of five substances are not perceptible by senses. Even all material things cannot be perceived by senses, for the ultimate particles (atoms) and some other minute bodies are not perceptible by senses. But they can only be comprehended through transcendental knowledge, or extrasensory-perception. In this context we can say that most of the objective realities cannot be known by sensory perception. But it does not mean that the things which we perceive by our sense are not real but mere appearances.
