The Enigma Of The Universe : I. What is Universe

In the preceding chapters we have studied the theories, hypotheses and speculations of the scientists as well as the views of the western philosophers and the doctrines of Jain philosophy regarding the various aspects of the universe. A critical discussion of all these views, including their comparison and contrast, may serve as a helpful guide in solving the enigma of the universe. We have seen that different solutions to the present enigma have been put forward in different times and places by different people. At some points the similarity between the different views is so striking that it surprises us, while at others the contrast between them is so strong that they seem to stand poles apart. The critical discussion, therefore, will not only be useful but interesting too.
