Right Vision (or attitude) is the prerequisite of Right Knowledge (Samayag Gyan). It means if the attitude is right, knowledge is right. If the attitude is wrong, knowledge is wrong. A person with a perverse attitude (Mithya Drishti) cannot possess Right Knowledge.

Knowledge is inherent in the Soul. However, it does not appear because Soul is covered by karmic matter. Knowledge appears when the karmic veil is lifted. It is partial when there is only a partial removal of karmic matter and total i.e. omniscience when the veil is totally removed. When a mirror is covered with dust, it does not reflect. Similarly when the Soul is covered with karmic dust it does not reflect or give effect of knowledge. Absence of knowledge is as unnatural to Soul as darkness is to the Sun.

Knowledge can emerge with or without the help of sense organs. Of the five classes of knowledge, the mati (sensory) and the sruta (hearing and mind) are born with the help of sense organs. The avadhi (visual intuition) the manah prayay (mental intuition) and the keval (pure & perfect) knowledge are born without sense organs. Mati and sruta knowledge come by indirect knowledge and the remaining three - avadhi (visual intuition), manah paryaya (mental intuition) and keval (pure & perfect) knowledge come by direct or immediate knowledge.
