Acharya Tulsi - A Peacemaker Par Excellence: The Editing of the Agamas

In 1950 Acharyashree was on a visit to Maharashtra. When he was staying at the house of a Jain family in the village, Manchar, he happened to see a monthly journal 'Dharm Doot'. In the course of going through its pages, he came across an article which eluded to the effort of some Buddhists scholars to edit their sacred texts. It gave rise to a desire in Acharyashree to undertake the task of editing the Jain Agamas. He announced his decision publicly on the occa­sion of Mahavir Jayanti at Aurangabad. The work began at Ujjain during his chaturmas (four months' stay at a place during the rainy season). It has been going on without a break for the last 28 years. A large number of important Agamas have already been edited and published. They have been hailed as highly researched and authen­tic texts by the eminent Jain scholars of the country.
