Ten duties of monks:
Monks observe the following great duties to the fullest extent. While householders follow them from a lesser degree to fullest extent.
- Kṣamā (forgiveness)
- Mārdava (politeness) and Laghava (meekness)
- Ārjava (simplicity)
- Mukti (absence of avarice)
- Tapa (internal and external austerities)
- Saṁyama (controlling senses)
- Satya (avoiding condemnable speech)
- Śauca (mental purity)
- Aparigraha (non-possesiveness)
- Brahmacarya (celibacy).[5]
