Jeevan Vigyan courses offer a balanced system of education. Its objective is to develop a highly integrated personality by way of transforming the attitudes and behavioral patterns of each student. It prescribes a comprehensive course designed by Acharya Mahapragya in the guidance of Acharya Tulsi, for achieving social health. It is believed that the physical and mental health of an individual primarily depends upon their emotional health. It is a prerequisite for attaining social health in general. All four dimensions (the physical, the mental, the intellectual and the emotional) are interdependent and co-related to one another.
Jeevan Vigyan includes modern subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, Bio-chemistry, Psychology, Psychiatry, Sociology and Ecology taught concurrently with the Eastern spiritual courses like Ethics, Yoga, Pranayam and Meditation.
Conventional Yoga education is limited to asana and pranayama. Though Jeevan Vigyan also includes these exercises but, the core focus is meditation. This is because asana and pranayama assist with physiological functions, while meditation is able to address the mental and emotional levels.
Jeevan Vigyan can be seen as a holistic approach for shaping an inclusive personality to build the skills necessary for living a purposeful life. It requires little study but many practical exercises. Literature and courses are available, and educators who were once embarrassed by moral and religious education, have accepted Science of Living courses as a means to develop outstanding moral character in society.
To continue and execute upon all of these activities, many institutions sprung up under Acharya Tulsi's tutelage. The governments of Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Tamilnadu and Bihar introduced Jeevan Vigyan teachings into schools. Jain Vishva Bharati University at Ladnun offers bachelor and master degree courses in Jeevan Vigyan.
