The Power Of Guru

Sometimes in life mental distraction can be in one's surroundings that is not conducive to him or her. This could result in unhealthy influences on body and mind.

Meghakumar, who was a prince, was so impressed by Mahavir bhagwan's discourse that he immediately decided to get initiate. Little did he know about hardships of monk-hood.

On the first night when he went to sleep, being the initiated one he was given a spot to sleep near the door. The senior monks were coming and going near to his sideways during the nighttime, so he could not sleep peacefully. He got frustrated and thought he could not survive in the Sadhu's culture.

Next morning he went to Mahavir. Being kevalgyani Mabavir knew what was going on in his mind.

Bhagwan asked him why was he holding back, why did he want to leave the life of a monk?

Mahavir Bhagwan helped Meghakumar to remind his past birth. In the past birth Meghakumar was an elephant. He had cleared apart of the forest for himself. One day there was a massive fire in the forest. The other animals from the jungle gathered to area where it was clear and where the elephants resided. Meghakumar or as the elephant he was in his previous birth was also there. He lifted his foot up to scratch himself. When he tried to put his foot down he saw a rabbit he nearly would have trampled. For two and a half days he kept his foot lifted. After the fire had subsided, the animals went back. The elephant (Meghakumar) tried to put his foot down. It had gone stiff. He fell down and died. And because of his compassion he took birth in human life. This deed or karma that had him being born a Raja kumar and that into a royal household.

Mahavir Bhagawan being the teacher helped his new student going to astray. However, things should not deter human being in life. Meghakumar said to himself if this moment was right then a new beginning. He wasn't the victim of circumstance.

Listening to Bhagawan, Meghakumar went into  deep meditation, and acquired Jatismarangyan. Meghakumar said to Mahavir Bhagawan that he had made a conscious choice to stop allowing himself to go where life pushed and pulled him. Instead, he began to acknowledge that he could choose his responses and master his life. And he remained as a monk.

This way Mahavir Bhagawan enlightens the situation and teaches us that find your limiting factor, and focus your energies on alleviating them as quickly as possible which is pratikraman.
