Yoga A New Life Style: Desired Precautions

Published: 16.09.2017

Before commencing any activity it is always advisable to take necessary precautions to avoid any mishap. Carelessly done work will not only harm the doer but also not deliver the desired results. Hence it is most essential to follow certain rules before commencing practice of asanas.

  1. Perform asana with a cool and steady mind.
  2. Always perform asana with an empty stomach.
  3. Never practice asana immediately after a meal. A gap of at least 2 hours after a meal is a must before an asana can be practiced.
  4. Do not break the order of asanas.
  5. Do not put undue pressure on body while performing asana.
  6. Do not eat anything for at least an hour after asana.
  7. Initially set aside a short duration for practice. Gradually increase time for practice.
  8. Do not change time and place of practice.
  9. While practicing do not let any negative thoughts disturb or distract.
  10. Instead of trying to master all asanas at once try to perform one at a time.
  11. Do not forget to relax for a few minutes in the middle of a session.
  12. Inhale deeply while performing an asana. During performing asana breathing should be normal.
  13. Do not practice pranayam till asanas are over.
  14. Do not take up the next asana till perfection has not been achieved with the previous one.
  15. Imagine posture before doing an asana. Then concentrate on posture while practicing it.
  16. If suffering from low or high blood pressure do not attempt any such asana which might aggravate the situation.
  17. A person suffering from ill health shouldn't practice for too long.
