Udianasana

(Digestive Posture)

Udianasana is also a great Asana for abdomen.


Method

Sit in a comfortable position (Bhadrasana) and place both hands on thighs. Bend in front and exhale. Abdomen will move inside during exhalation and a type of hollow place will be created in abdomen. Now hold breath outside and move abdomen in and out. This is called Udiankriya. In normal conditions practitioner is required to move his abdomen 5 times in one holding position of breath. With thorough practice slowly it can be moved for 20 times in one holding position of breath. Few Yogacharyas know Udianasana as Agnisarkriya also.


Duration

Practice this asana as long as you can hold your breath. In cases of abdominal complaints, practice under the advice of the trainer.


Effect on Health

Detoxifies the body and makes it healthy. It improves digestion. It destroys all diseases and increases the bodily fire. It massages all the organs of the abdomen and tones up the leg muscles.


Other Benefits

With regular practice of this Asana, practitioner is relieved from Udaragni. Along with liver and Spleen, all organ of abdomen becomes efficient in their functioning. The insects, which damage the intestine, worms also go out of system along with feces.
