(Angle Posture)

Kon means 'Angle' in Hindi language. While practicing this asana body forms an angle and hence the name Konasana. This is another asana, which is practiced in a standing position.


Method

  1. Stand on floor in Sampadasana.
  2. Inhaling deeply and slowly take right hand straight up, keeping arm as close to ear as possible.
  3. Bend towards left as much as you can. Remember that elbow should not bend and spine as well as buttocks remains stationary.
  4. Exhale, straighten body and bring your hand down slowly. Follow same process with left arm.

Practice of this asana directly influences shoulders, neck and chest resulting in healthy and strong organs. The slight bending of waist makes muscles flexible and strong. The unnecessary fat accumulated around waistline vanishes helping practitioner to get rid of obesity. A noticeable growth is experienced by nervous system with practice of this asana. The pressure on ears removes laziness resulting in an increase in alertness and awareness. Heart patients can practice this asana, while sitting down.

Practice of this asana influences glands like adrenal and thyroid. Both these glands are of utmost importance for the growth of the body. This asana proves itself to be very useful in controlling any malfunction connected with these glands.
