Revolution of Russia in October 1917 is alive even today in the remembrance of people. Nobody has thought that people had to face another revolution only after seven decades. But at the General Conference of Soviet Communist Party organized in Moscow on 1st July, 1988, not only stunned Soviet people but also the entire world, General Secretary of the party Michael Gorbachev has indicated a big change in the political system of Soviet Union and it is remarkably a bold step.
Due to the control of Marxist and Leninist ideology, no person had the right to think freely. Neither he had the right to raise his voice against any leader nor there do any process of original creative capacity. Therefore doors of Russia were totally closed. Since when Gorbachev took hold of the leadership of the party, Russia became open to the world. In the recent conference at Moscow, new policies were freely deliberated. This is the first happening when 209 members of the party expressed their opinion in protest against the introduction of new democratic process of Socialism.
In terms of the proposed policy placed in the conference, election of President will be held next year in the month of April. President will have much power than the powers being enjoyed by any leader as depicted in the history of Soviet Union. This will also provide freedom to people of the country for thinking, speaking and doing. This freedom will mean that the citizens of the country will avail full human rights and enjoy religious freedom. As a whole, basis of the thought is to stabilize the policy of Perestroika (Social Reform).
In view of the present leaders, the policy advocated for the development of society and progress in administration by the preceding leaders of Russia, was not possible to follow for material and cultural development of the country. If they stick to the policy of Marx, they cannot keep pace in the race for development. Moreover, the stiff-blockade imposed by them in Russia, was disrupting to move forward in many areas. On the basis of this reasoning of Gorbachev, we have to agree that keeping a well- thought scheme in mind he has expressed his views.
After going through the entire episode of Soviet Union, two- three issues are evident. First is—Communist ideology initiated by Marx was not applied in his time. When the thoughts of Marx took the shape of ideology, at that time he was not alive. After firm recognition of Maxims, nobody thought even in dream that it will be opposed in a communist country like Russia. Since last few years, the echo of the tune that country cannot progress fastly with the support of Marxism is being heard. This proves that no temporal philosophy or ideology can be everlasting. Principle of wealth and authority also cannot be lasting. In this context, if we understand the principle of multi-dimension (अनेकान्तवाद) of Bhagwan Mahaveer, no philosophy or idealism can pose any problem.
Bhagwan Mahaveer guided truth of two types—enteral and periodical. Eternal Truth is non-violence, friendship and authenticity. Traditions are temporal truth. Tradition of Marx was also a social truth. Plant of that truth has withered in Russia. In this situation, if a plant of new democratic idea blossoms, it will not be a surprising phenomenon.
