'SHRUTGANGA'S THE REWRITING CENTER OF JAIN MANUSCRIPTS
Mumbai:âShrutgangaâis the centre of rewriting Jain manuscripts on the third floor of Shrut Ganga Mandir situated amidst the hustle and bustle of of Kalbadevi in Mumbai.A dozen men seated in an organised sequence on the floor, work themselves into oblivion. They are rewriting ancient Jain manuscripts. Thousands of manuscripts are brought here from the libraries of the old town of Patan in Gujarat. Interestingly, these men, wearing traditional white robes and colourful turbans are either Maharashtrian or North Indian Brahmins. These men at their antique wooden desks reproduce each letter on sheets made out of jute paper in admirable calligraphy. The re-creation of each letter has a touch of artistic excellence requiring great precision and patience.
Among them is Hemang Mistry, who has been working at this centre ever since its inception. With focused gaze, he goes about codifying the manuscripts, arranging them neatly in carved cupboards made of teak wood. The ink is eco-friendly. Sesame oil when burnt produces deep soot. It is mixed with natural colours to give black ink. The paper used is handmade and of jute. The religious texts are mostly in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Magadhi languages. The centre uses two types of ink - black ink procured from burnt sesame and golden ink made of natural colors and gold dust. Depending on the colour of the ink, either white or black sheet of paper is chosen. The paper is pressed against strings attached on the surface of a rectangular piece of wood to create impression of rules. The traditional practice of rewriting manuscripts requires the writers to sit on the floor for long hours to rewrite, proof read and correct. of the 15 men at work, two Sanskrit scholars from Benares have assumed the mantle of proof reading.
Administrator Mahendra Gehlani explains the idea of streamlining the colossal task of scriptwriting. âWith most of the Jain manuscripts getting destroyed over a period of time, the community felt the need to preserve its ancient tradition. Ever since its inception, 6,500 manuscripts have been rewrittenâ. The proposed library for housing Jain manuscripts and religious texts is set to come up at Ahmedabad.

PRIYANKA JAIN AWARDED $100,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH
New Mexico: Priyanka Jain, a La Cueva High School graduate from New Mexico, is one of the 19 Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars selected this year, to Notre Dame University. Priyanka Jain won the prestigious scholarship, which comes with $100,000 over the next four years, for her promising research on treatment of cancer. Priyanka Jain was selected after competing in the International Science and Engineering Fair for her project on cancer treatment. She developed a method to target and kill cancer cells without life threatening side effects, which had promising results.
Out of more than 1,700 contestants from 77 countries, she was placed second in her category. She will study biochemistry at Notre Dame. She would like to become an orthopedic surgeon while continuing her cancer research. Her high school accolades include founding a science bowl club to spread STEM awareness, captaining a Model UN team and several Science Olympiad events, serving as an ambassador to the National Society of High School Scholars, and being a member of several national honor societies. She is a finalist for the National Merit and AXA Achievement Scholarships, and was the only finalist from the state of New Mexico for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. She has also been the JV Tennis team co-captain and loves to play piano and violin.

तारिषी जैन का अंतिम संस्कार आज, आतंकियों ने मारने से पहले किया था काफी टॉर्चर
दिल्ली: गत शुक्रवार को बांग्लादेश की राजधानी ढाका में उच्च सुरक्षा वाले राजनायिक क्षेत्र के एक मशहूर रेस्तरां में हुए आतंकवादी हमले में भारतीय किशोरी तारिषी जैन की भी हत्या कर दी गई थी जिनका आज अंतिम संस्कार नोएडा में किया जाएगा। सूत्रों के मुताबिक रविवार शाम को 19 वर्षीय तारिषी जैन का शव सोमवार को दिल्ली पहुंचने के बाद यहां तक आने में काफी बिलम्ब होगा, इसलिए ढाका से सोमवार को दोपहर बाद उसका शव दिल्ली पहुंचने के बाद अंतिम संस्कार वहीं किया जाएगा ।
किया गया था काफी टॉर्चर
मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक तारिषी की गला रेतकर हत्या करने से पहले आतंकियों ने उसे काफी टॉर्चर भी किया था। जानकारी के मुताबिक तारिषी के शरीर पर चोट के निशान मिले हैं। जिनके आधार पर बताया जा रहा है कि तारिषी को बंधक बनने के बाद उसे टॉर्चर किया गया, बाद में उसी हत्या कर दी गई।
तारिषि के पिता का बांग्लादेश में कपड़े का बिजनेस है
- तारिषि छुट्टियां मनाने बांग्लादेश गईं थीं। उन्होंने हाल ही में कैलिफोर्निया की बर्कले यूनिवर्सिटी में एडमिशन लिया था।
- तारिषि के पिता का यहां कपड़े का बिजनेस है। वह ढाका में करीब 10 साल से रह रहे हैं। उनका घर इस रेस्टोरेंट के करीब है।
- उनके कुछ दोस्तों ने लगातार तारिषि के मोबाइल पर फोन किए लेकिन उनकी ओर से कोई जवाब नहीं मिला।
- भारत में रह रहीं बांग्लादेशी राइटर तस्लीमा नसरीन ने शुक्रवार रात ही दावा किया था कि बंधकों में एक भारतीय लड़की भी है।
- शनिवार दोपहर तस्लीमा ने दोबारा ट्वीट कर बताया था कि तारिषि को आईएस के आतंकियों ने मार डाला।
- इसके बाद विदेश मंत्री सुषमा स्वराज ने भी ट्वीट कर बताया कि तारिषि की आतंकियों ने हत्या कर दी है। मैंने उनके पिता संजीव जैन से भी बात की है।
फिरोजाबाद का रहने वाला है परिवार
- बांग्लादेश में आतंकी हमले में मारी गई तारिषि जैन का परिवार मूलरूप से फिरोजाबाद के सुहानगर का रहने वाला है।
- उसके पिता संजीव जैन वर्ष 1990 में बिजनेस के सिलसिले में हांगकांग शिफ्ट हो गए थे।
- वहीं पर 1997 में तारिषि का जन्म हुआ।
- शुरुआती पढ़ाई हांगकांग में ही हुई।
- गारमेंट कारोबार के सिलसिले में उनका परिवार 2006-07 में ढाका शिफ्ट हुआ था।
- तारिषि एमबीए करने के लिए कैलिफोर्निया गई थी।
- वह हाल ही में वहां से लौटकर 3 महीने की इंटर्नशिप करने ढाका आई थी।
