Paryushan 2007 Celebrations

Day 9

Maitri Divas
Universal Forgiveness Day

17.09.2007

The last day of the paryushan at the end of the Samvatsari was celebrated as Maitri Divas. The programme started at 6.15 A.M. Thousands of lay followers were present. Those having done Poushadh were present after doing their pratikraman in the morning. Most reached from their home from whole of the greater Kolkata.

The programme was compered by Shadhvi Dr. Yogkshemprabhaji. First of all Sadhvi shree Nirwanshreeji offered the lay followers who had done Poushadh to do Samayiks as Aloyana (to purify themselves from any mistakes committed during Poushadh)

She also said “Forgiveness is a virtue and it is the first step towards eternal happiness.‘KHAMATKHAMNA’, the virtue of forgiving & being forgiven, manifests itself truly when there is toleration. In the absence of toleration it remains a mere verbal assertion without much significance, at time even ironical. One who practices forgiveness is always tolerant. The practical aspect of Forgiveness has been described in the Agamas as follows:

“O beloved of the Gods! I ask forgiveness of you. Kindly grant me pardon. Because you are fully competent to do so.”

As a result of forgiveness one’s mind, speech and body merge into one whole, a unity. The purity of thought, speech & action is its culmination. Once the knot has been resolved, not to provide another occasion for it to reform, is the consummation of ‘KHAMATKHAMNA’ (Forgiveness).

Sadhvishree along with all the sadhviji in her group completed the process of Khamat Khamana beginning with Gurudev Acharya Shree Mahapragyaji to the lay followers in Kolkata. All the Lay followers too reciprocated under the guidance of Sri Suresh ji Goyal.

The President and Secretary of South Kolkata Sabha Sri Ranjit Singh Kothari and Sri Surendra Kumar Dugar, Sri Rajkaran Sirohia (president Tepapanth Mahasabha) Sri Surendra Choraria (president JVB, LADNUN),Sri Ratan Dugar (president of All India Youth Wing of Terapanth, ABTYP) Sri Banechand Malu (Chief Trustee - Jai Tulsi Foundation), Sri Mahal Chand Bhansali (President, Kolkata Sabha), Sri Pankaj Ray Sethia (President, TEYUP-KOLKATA), Smt. Tara Devi Surana (Chief Trustee of All India Ladies wing) Smt Pratibha Kothari (President of Ladies wing - KOLKATA), Sri Narendra Manot, Sri Prakash dugaretc asked everybody to forgive them for any mistakes committed knowingly or unknowingly by them in course of their work as office bearers of various sanghiya institutions and by them inperson as well. The programme ended with mangal path from sadhvishreeji. Sri Sushil Bafana, HN4U correspondent was also present in ashtaprahari poushadh.

Whole of this festival had dispersed the atoms of joy, forgiveness, purity, equanimity, unity and spirituality in the environment.
