Sadhvi Kalp Lata
Sadhvi Hulasaji’s Chaturmas was in Taranagar. Sadhvi Rijumatiji accompanied her. Sadhvi Rijumatiji had a natural habit of chanting the Mantra, ‘Om Bhikshu’ before performing any activity. She had an inner feeling that if she did not chant the Mantra, ‘Om Bhikshu,’ she would not be successful in her activity. In the Chaturmas at Taranagar, she started suffering from cough and cold. She started local treatment, but her cough increased. One day she went to Mangalchandji Barmecha"s house for alms (gochari.) He said, “You are suffering from cold since long. If you want you can take the medicine which I have. I am sure by taking this medicine your cough will be cured.” The nun took the medicine back to her place.
After dinner the nuns requested Sadhvi Rijumatiji to take that medicine. When she was taking that medicine, a few drops fell on ground and it evaporated instantly. It seemed as if it was not a medicine but something else. She narrated the whole story to the other nuns. At that very moment Sadhvi Hulasaji said, “You should not keep any doubts because Mangalchandji is an enlightened and faithful disciple, and he would not give any wrong medicine to us.” Further she said, “Last night you coughed very badly, so please take the medicine as the sun is going to set very soon.” Without saying a word she put the medicine in a bowl. As usual, she chanted the Mantra, ‘Om Bhikshu’ and all of a sudden the bowl slipped from her hand. It broke into pieces. She felt as if someone had forced her to spill the medicine.
After performing Pratikramana, Mangalchandji came frightened and asked, “Who took the medicine which I gave and what is the condition of that nun?”
The nuns were curious to know the reason of his fear. He replied, “The medicine had finished which I gave you for cough, so a few days ago my wife had put spirit in that empty bottle. I was unaware of the fact. Just now, in my house we were talking about the medicine. When l came to know the reality, I rushed here.”
The nuns said, “You need not get frightened. Sadhviji tried to take the medicine twice, but we don’t know the reason why the medicine fell on the floor and she could not take it. The name of Bhikshu has divine strength which naturally saved us from some unknown peril. Since nothing has happened to us, you need not Worry.”
