Samayasara - by Acharya Kundakunda: Delusion And Arrogance Of Altruistic Actions Is Futile

(Jῑve dukkliida-suhide karemi) "I make other organisms happy or miserable; (baṃdhemi taha vimocemi) I bind them and I free them" (de jā esā mūḍhamadῑ sā ṇiratthayā du miccā) this delusion of yours is false and futile, in fact, it is perverted, (jadi hi) because in reality, (ajjhavasāṇaṃittam jῑvā kammaṇā vajjhamti) every soul determines its bondage with karma because of its own feelings/ instincts, (ya mokkhamagge ṭhidā te muccaṃti) or [on the other hand] it demolishes karma by going on the path of emancipation; (tuṃ kiṃ karosi) then what is your function?

(Jῑvo ajjhavasāṇeṇā) Every soul, through its own feelings, (tiriya-ṇeraiye ya devamaṇuve savve aṇeyavihaṃ-puṇṇaṃ pāvaṃ savve karedi) determines its various mode, viz., naraka [hellish], deva [godly], subhuman and human organisms as well as various bondage of auspicious and inauspicious karma.

(Tahā ca jῑvo ajjhavasāṇeṇā dhammādhammaṃ jῑvājῑve alogalogaṃ ca savve appāṇaṃ karedi) Similarly, the soul, through its own instincts and feelings, assume various modes, viz., moral, sinful, animate, inanimate, loka—cosmos and super cosmos—aloka and falsely believe them to be its own [while, in reality, the soul is totally distinct from them all].

(Edāṇi evamādῑṇi ajjhavasāṇāṇi jesiṃ ṇātthi te muṇῑ) The wise ascetic who is free from these afore-mentioned and also other similar feelings/instincts (asuheṇa ya suheṇa kammeṇa ṇa lippaṃti) is not corrupted by the bondage of inauspicious or auspicious karma.

(Buddhā vavasāo vi ya ajjhavasāṇaṃ madῑ ya viṇṇāṇaṃ cittaṃ bhāvo ya pariṇāmo savvaṃ ikkaṭṭhameva) Intellect resolving, instinct/feeling, thinking, perception, citta—psychic dispositions and pariṇāma are all synonymous [words with the same meaning].
