The Terapanth Constitution authorizes the Acharya to choose his successor Acharyashree's choice was hailed and admired as a prudent decision. Akshya Kumar Jain, editor of the Navbharat Times, wrote, "Acharyashree has done many a wise thing in his life. But I consider the choice of his successor the wisest of all."
The Acharya enjoys an exclusive right to nominate his successor. He is not bound to consult anyone. It is solely based on his personal views and impressions. Our tradition admits no provision for candidacy or canvassing. If someone resorts to such methods, he has to reap its consequences.
