Among all asanas, which are practiced lying down, Pavanmuktasana is said to be good and a great asana. This asana influences all organs of body and pacifies the residual flatulence (gas) in them. Joint pains caused by this residual air are relieved. Since this asana helps release residual air it is called Pavanmuktasana. Before practicing Pavanmuktasana, one should start with Ardhapavanmuktasana.
