Bhagvan Mahavira has said a very important thing that kayotsarga frees a person from all sufferings. It is a small aphorism, but it is very difficult to define its fundamental meaning. How can kayotsarga bring freedom from all sufferings? If we try to understand this in the context of science, it is possible to understand the point to some extent. There are many kinds of rays in the brain such as alpha, beta, theta, gamma, etc. It is possible to be free from mental tensions and experience peace whenever the alpha rays are active. In the state of kayotsarga, the alpha rays get a chance to develop. As one begins the process of kayotsarga, the alpha rays would start rising. The mental tension would start decreasing. When someone's E.C.G. is being taken, he is instructed to completely relax his body. While extracting a tooth, the dentist asks the patient to relax his jaw. If the jaw is closed tight, it would not be possible to take out the toothand it would also be more painful. Kayotsarga is most essential if one wants to get over his pain or reduce it.
