Health is related not only to balanced food and to the supply of nourishing elements, but also to the ejectment of the toxic substances that accumulate along with the intake of food. Excretion is very important.
Bhagvan Mahavira has mentioned three functions with regard to the paryapti regarding to food: intake of food, its transformation and the ejectment of the toxic substances. In other words, consumption of food, its assimilation and the ejectment are the three functions. Food is transformed into juices and blood. This is the transformation, that is, assimilation of food. Assimilation is followed by ejectment of the toxic substances. The function of ejectment is carried out not merely by the intestines, but by every cell of the body. The problem of health cannot be solved if the toxic substances collected in the body are not properly ejected.
