Mahavira's Scripture Of Health: [03.06] Emotion And Health - Physical, Mental And Emotional Disease (Vyadhi, Aadhi And Upadhi)

Three words are used in preksha dhyan: Vyadhi (physical disease), adhi (mental diseases) and upadhi (emotional disease). Leaving aside mental illness, if we think about health along with physical illness and mental suffering, the problem would not be solved. A gentleman said, "Maharaj, I had got my tests done everywhere, and had diagnosis done through microscopic instruments. The doctors say that I have no disease and I am in the best of health. But the fact is that I am feeling ill. I am in trouble, I am in pain."

Let us think about both these problems. On the one hand, the diagnosis of the doctor and the negative reports of the tests done through microscopic instruments both have concluded that that person has no disease. On the other hand, the patient says that he is in great pain. Where lies the contradiction? Should we say that the doctor's conclusion is wrong or the microscopic instruments have given wrong indications? We cannot take either of these to be wrong. If we do so, the whole medical system will be shattered. Then should we say the patient is wrong? Whose contention should we accept and whose contention should we reject? There is contradiction between them. Its solution can be found in the world of bhava.
