Mahavira's Scripture Of Health: [05.12] Who Is Ill? - Total View

Three principles promulgated with regard to health are very important:

  1. The disease affects not a particular organ but the whole body.
  2. Only a sick person is affected by a disease. A healthy person is never affected by any disease.
  3. A disease comes as a whole, not in part.

If we examine these three principles from the non-absolutism point of view, it would be very convenient to understand the patient as well as the disease. If we are not able to understand the patient, his treatment would become very complicated.

One of our monks was in the Sawai Man Singh Hospital at Jaipur. The senior doctor told him, "Maharaja! We find it very difficult to treat all those fretting and fuming people who come here because they are very much frustrated and dejected about life. How can we save those who give themselves up to despair and who have no will to live? Therefore, we would urge you to somehow increase their psychic force. They can be saved if we give them medicine and you restore their psychic force."

This is a total view of health. If this non-absolutism view Point is universally accepted in the field of medical treatment, it can provide a new strength to the entire human race.
