How Often To Eat?
Mahavira has one principle with regard to the meals Ekabhattam ChaBhoyanam i.e. one meal a day. The habit of eating again and again has often created many problems. One who has one meal a day, probably does not need to take medicines very often. Such a person usually remains healthy.
Let us look at the practice followed in ancient India. Some people took only one meal a day. After that they did not eat anything else during the day. Most people ate twice a day. The practice of having more than two meals was very rare. Today the situation is such that it has become usual to have three meals and take tea five or seven times in a day. A person eats so much that his intestines get no chance at all to have some rest.
