Mahavira's Scripture Of Health: [07.10] Life-Style And Health - Training Is Necessary

The process of anupreksha (contemplation) and to a certain extent the technique of sammohana (hypnosis) are used in preksha-dhyana. This is done to enable the person to control his brain and his notions. In the process of anupreksha, definite words are frequently repeated. It means that through this process, we suggest certain things to our brain. This process influences the brain. The bhavana is the main thing that influences the brain. Here the term bhavana is used to mean the repeated practice. When the same feelings keep coming in the brain, that brain gets trained. Self-restraint is not possible without the training of the brain. The brain accepts the suggestion and the reason of this acceptance according to the doctrine of karma is the leshya (psychic colours). That flow exists within, and it is this which influences our behaviour. According to physiology, one remains in the state of good health when the secretion of the glands is balanced. But when that secretion is imbalanced, there is the condition of bad health. Similarly, our internal flows of the leshyas are also responsible for our good health or poor health. Let us resort to pure leshyas or feelings and the brain would be influenced by them.
