Restraint in food habits is linked to both our body and mind.
The first point of contact is health.
The one who eats less remains healthy.
The second point of contact is youth.
The one who eats with restraint remains young for a long time and is also full of energy.
The third point of contact is longevity.
The one who practices self-control in eating lives long and escapes untimely death.
The fourth point of contact leads to cleansing of thoughts, serenity and purity of mind.
On the basis of all this the Dhramasastra (religious texts) says maintain control over food.
Svasthya sastra or the treatise on health also says practise restraint in food habits.
