We want to change our nature.
We want to transform our personality, but we can not do that unless we know the process of transformation.
In Jain philosophy, this transformation has two parts:
Inhibiting karmas (samvar) and shedding karmas (nirjara).
The synonyms of these in day to day life are prevention and rectification.
In Yoga terminology the equivalent words are khumbak and rechan.
Transformation is not possible without preventing the impact of external influences. Transformation is also not possible without purifying and thus rectifying the accumulated samskaras within us.
So for transformation it is necessary to adopt this two way process.
