The Support Of Faith: 24 ►The Value of Samyam (Restrain)

Published: 03.02.2020

It is generally believed that India experiences lesser amount of rain than it had been experiencing. However, experts believe otherwise. They say that rainfall is better in India than the rainfall of most the countries of the world. Desert part of India experiences more rainfall than Central-South America experiences. When Indian deserts are better rain fed than Central South America, why areas in and around Jaisalmer in India reel under starvation like situation for years together?

Water is vital for life. Man can survive for months even without food, but without water it is difficult even to go for some odd days. It is feared that at the threshold of 21st century scarcity of water would be the most intricate problem. In the cities where deep tube-wells are there in a good number, are also not far from water crisis. In such a situation what can be told about the villages without any sorts of such solutions.

There are about 10 lakh villages in India. Nearly 6 lakh of these villages are facing acute shortage of water. Lesser amount of rainwater, depleting level of ground water, water of rivers and wells being polluted by factories/mills coupled with unmindful wastage of water - all these factors have added to the woes of water crisis.

What the paradox is? On one hand, there is acute shortage of drinking water and on the other; water is wastefully used. The way water is wasted in households indicates that in the near future people will have difficult times. What would be then a substitute for water?

Anuvrat is equally concerned for both the problems moral as well as social. Restrain is the foundation of Anuvrat. Let the mankind understand the value of preservation and let water not be wasted. Each drop of water is to be used with a sense of conservation. If we could make a ceiling of consumption of water for us, it is hoped that crisis of water would not be so alarming.
