Traveling on foot has always been of great value.
In the past it was more so.
Even today it is not of any less value.

In India many great saints have traveled only on foot and because of that,
they were able to establish contact with the whole nation.

To awaken the awareness of the people Gandhi undertook journeys on foot.

Acharya Vinoba Bhave went on foot to spread the message of Bhoodaan,
while Acharya Tulsi undertook it to spread the message of Anuvrat.

To travel by a vehicle is convenient.
Walking is penance.
Penance exerts influence, not convenience.
Conveniences can incite reactions, not awaken discrimination.
